CRANN & Science Gallery launch Nanoweek 2012 with Magical Materials Exhibition

The upcoming Magic Materials exhibition at the Science Gallery in Trinity College coincides this weekend with the launch of Nanoweek 2012, which runs from 14th – 21st September.

Magical Materials is a free, month long show at Science Gallery which explores the peculiar properties of the world’s most futuristic and spectacular materials. Visitors to the exhibition will have a chance to see, touch and experience almost fifty Magical Materials including: Aerogel (the lightest solid in the world), Graphene (a layer of graphite just one atom thick but 200 times stronger than steel) and Smart textiles (that store information, keep your gadgets charged and raise oxygen levels in blood).

Internship at CRANN

CRANN, Ireland’s leading Nanoscience Research Institute in Trinity College, is hoping to add another module to the ‘Nano in my Life’ series for TY students, and would like to get a second level science teacher on board to assist in designing content, as they did with the first set of modules.
The two week internship will be a paid position based in CRANN at Trinity College. It is a unique opportunity to learn more about nanoscience in CRANN, a world-class facility. You will be developing supplemental material for the ‘Nano in my Life’ module series focusing on the concept of building nano materials and exploring the various ways this can be achieved. The content that you develop will be professionally designed and available for download from September 2013 for teachers nationwide.

You do not need a great knowledge of nanoscience but enthusiasm, creativity, good research and writing skills are essential. Further details are attached.

If you are interested in working with them or discussing it informally, please contact Éilis McGrath, Education and Outreach Team, telephone: 01-8964621 or email eilis.mcgrath@tcd.ie.

Closing date for applications is 5pm, Monday 8th July.
