Evidence Informed Practice in Science Education – Free Webinar

Tralee Education Centre are hosting a free webinar on Evidence Informed Practice in Science Education on Tuesday February 27th, delivered by ISTA Vice Chairperson Humphrey Jones. The webinar will be aimed at teachers of Junior Cycle Science and Leaving Cert Biology, although teachers of other Senior Cycle sciences may also find it useful.

The webinar will present an introduction to cognitive science and its application in the science classroom. The webinar will introduce, amongst other things, retrieval practice and Rosenshine’s Principle of Instruction, and explore how these can be applied in the science classroom in a practical way. Humphrey will also share elements of his practice that have proven effective, time-saving and enjoyable for his students.

Humphrey Jones is Head of Science & Guidance Counsellor at St. Columba’s College Dublin. He has been teaching Leaving Certificate Biology for over 20 years, as well as Leaving Certificate Agricultural Science & Junior Cycle Science. He is currently Vice Chairperson of the Irish Science Teachers’ Association and co-organiser of ResearchED Dublin, a major education conference on evidence-based approaches to teaching, leadership and learning. ResearchED Dublin took place at St. Columba’s in 2019 and 2022; ResearchED will return to Ireland in September 2024, moving to Belfast.
