Postgraduate Certificate in 21^st Century Teaching and Learning with Trinity College Dublin’s Schools of Education and Computer Science & Statistics, Bridge21 and the Trinity Access Programmes (TAP)

Through creative teamwork, this Level 9 qualification explores how 21^st century learning can be integrated within the classroom. In addition to the core module on ‘Digital Media’ optional modules include computer programming STEM pedagogy, ‘Inclusive Education’ and ‘Leadership & Change Management’.

The Cert is a Level 9 awarded by Trinity College Dublin. Teaching on the course comprises six modules between September and April. Each module consists of a Friday evening (6-9pm) and Saturday (9.30am-5pm) session, in Trinity College and/or the Google Foundry buildings in Dublin. For completion of the Cert, participants create and submit an assignment for each of the six modules to at least a ‘pass’ standard. About half of the assignments are traditional, essay assignments, while the other half combines classroom implementation and critical reflection based in the Bridge21 pedagogy.

There is a progression pathway from the PG Cert to MEd strands in the School of Education.

Computer Science and STEM innovations learning innovations in ‘21Century Schools of Distinction’ despite resource shortfall. A report on first year of Trinity Access 21 project supported by Google recommends Investment in resources and structural changes in schools required for progress.

The five awardees were:

1. Caritas College, Dublin 10

2. Fingal Community College, Swords, Co. Dublin

3. Mt Sion Primary School, Waterford

4. Portlaoise College, Co. Laois

5. St Aloysius College, Athlone, Co. Westmeath

This year’s awards also recognised four schools that demonstrate ‘Future Vison’, having set out a clear vision for educational change which they will begin to implement in autumn 2016. These awardees were:

1. Coláiste de hÍde, Tallaght, Dublin 24

2. Mount Sackville, Chapelizod, Dublin 20

3. St Kevin’s Community College, Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow

4. St Paul’s Community College, Waterford.
