Maths – it IS Rocket Science

Attention Primary Teachers: There are a limited number of places left on our DES Approved practical hands-on Summer Course "Maths – it IS Rocket Science." The course runs from 1st to 5th July in three venues, Dunsink Observatory, Blackrock Castle Observatory and Birr Castle.

Excellent facilitators present the DPSM space related materials as well as European Space Agency resources. You will be shown how these might be best used in the classroom and how maths can be integrated into space related activities.

European Space Education Resource Office

ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office) Ireland website is now live www.esero.ie . It will act as a signpost to ESA (European Space Agency) education resources and space related teacher’s workshops, competitions, conferences and news.

ESERO is a partnership between Discovery Science and Engineering and the European Space Agency. Ireland is now the fifth country with its own ESERO.

ESERO aims to inspire and engage young people in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), using space as a theme and making Ireland’s space industry more accessible to students and the public. It also provides a point of contact for teachers, lecturers and others seeking information about space education.

KidWind – FREE Training in Wind Energy for Teachers

KidWind Ireland is a project that seeks to support teachers all over Ireland to access training programs and equipment in wind energy. The course may be useful for Transition Year and the new Junior Cycle activities.

The primary aim of the KidWind program is to train and equip teachers at primary and second level to teach their own students about wind energy and provide knowledge about the industry and topic. The program is aimed at teachers of science, mathematics and geography although others may attend. This 4 day course is hands-on with a practical focus. Participant teachers will receive FREE class materials, lesson plans and FREE wind turbine lab kits to take back to their schools.

4th-7th of June 2013: Lifetime Lab, Cork City

4th-7th of June 2013: Dublin West Education Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24

10th-13th of June 2013: Donegal Education Centre, Donegal Town

Lunch and refreshments will also be provided during the training.
