Continuing the "Physics@Work" series for Science Teachers on Tuesday 15th March at 7.30pm upstairs in The Ferryman, 35 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, D2. (opposite National Convention Centre) "An illustrated talk and tour of Dublin’s Victorian Diving Bell" by Joe Ryan, Irish Coast Guard.
Bindon Blood Stoney was the engineer who designed the quay walls for the River Liffey, and in the process, he pioneered the use of precast concrete. He designed the diving bell to carry out the work. He was the brother of the physicist George Johnstone Stoney, known for coining the term electron for the fundamental unit of electricity.
